There are many fantastic home improvement projects that you can work on, says Ram V. Chary. But if you can work on such projects and opt for a more environment-friendly approach, that would be even more superb.

Ram V Chary suggests starting simple, like using low VOC paint.

Paint your house green

Low volatile organic compound (VOC) paint is the safest way to paint your house. It does not put the one applying the pain in any danger. Because, unlike regular paint, low VOC does not emit fumes harmful to the environment. Regular paints continue to emit fumes even after years of being applied on surfaces. Next, if you have the budget for it, shifting towards solar-powered and natural lighting is a good idea.

Let there be (natural) light

A lot of the energy used in an average household has to do with the need for light and illumination. To make your home more environmentally friendly and less dependent on the grid, you can begin by letting natural light go in. In addition, the use of lighter paints has proven to brighten up rooms.

Transparent roofing has also done wonders in bringing light to homes without any cost. At night, make use of LED light bulbs which draw their energy from solar panels that collect energy during the day.

Don't let it go to waste

Then there's composting.

You can make use of composting so that your organic waste is managed better. You can even start your vermicomposting bin if you're up for it. With the help of earthworms, you can recycle your organic rubbish, which they can then turn into natural fertilization that further benefits your garden. Ram V Chary says that the good news is that your garden can also bring food to your table to enjoy.
